Community and Practice:

Jason Osbourn focuses his practice on comprehensive estate planning and probate matters, while maintaining a robust counsel and litigation practice in complex civil and insurance disputes.

​

Holding a Certificate in Probate and Estate Planning from the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE), Jason provides tailored wealth-preservation, trust, and estate services to clients at all stages of life. He believes that a well-crafted estate plan is a fundamental necessity for every individual and family, and he works closely with clients to design strategies uniquely suited to their specific goals.

 

In addition to his estate practice, Jason is an accomplished litigator with extensive experience navigating intricate issues of insurance law, automobile negligence, and premises liability. Because he understands the complexities of insurance coverage and liability from both sides of the aisle, he is uniquely equipped to secure efficient, favorable results in high-stakes disputes. Jason is a skilled brief writer and advocate, known for parsing complicated fact patterns to achieve decisive legal outcomes.

His notable litigation achievements include:

 

• Summary Dismissal of Tort Claims: Successfully secured summary disposition on claims of assault, battery, conspiracy, and negligence by establishing that his clients acted entirely in self-defense and that no genuine issue of material fact existed.

• Insurance Coverage Defense: Obtained summary dismissal for an insurer by successfully establishing that a claimant remained domiciled with his parent under Michigan law, despite both parties having vacated the shared residence.

​

• Appellate Reversal: Secured a critical reversal of a trial court verdict from the Michigan Court of Appeals, successfully arguing that the plaintiff’s claims were barred by the "one-year-back" rule.

 

Prior to entering private practice, Jason served his country in both the Marine Corps Reserve and the Army Reserve, and served his community as a deputy with the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office. When he is not advocating for clients, he enjoys backpacking across state and national wilderness areas with his family and is an active member of the Grand Rapids Curling Club.
